Professional boxing has relied heavily on the up and coming performers in the welterweight division. Before one of the best of all time in Floyd Mayweather retired and decided against an actual boxing match, one of those up and coming performers was Keith “One Time” Thurman who had challenged Mayweather for his championship title. It was a match that was unlikely from the onset but one that fans and even non fans would not want to miss. Mayweather declined.
So what happens from that point?
Keith “One Time” Thurman against “Showtime” Shawn Porter tentatively scheduled for December.
The big question following Thurman has been, along with his title, the big stage. And after Porter rebounded from his crushing loss in a stunning decision win against Adrien “The Problem” Broner, the question of when time would meet opportunity to get the chance at another title still remained.
Going in it’s almost an even matchup, probably going to the cards, and it’s for the title. The question of how Porter would handle his first professional loss has been answered and has gotten him to to this point. Thurman has steadily climbed his way to the top in the sport of boxing and wants to become one of the best ever.
What’s not to like?
The interest that the bout will draw is yet to be determined. However, this is where each and every boxer who can claim to be among the best of all time have started. This is where the sport can look to make a comeback.
This December, either Porter or Thurman will have to lose. But one of them will walk away with the title and it’s one that fans won’t want to miss.
